The town of 42,039 has often been called the “Heart of the San Ramon Valley.” The area was first inhabited by Native Americans and was later part of Mission San Jose. The town was originally a farming community and with the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad, the crops were changed from wheat to fruits and nuts.
